We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Wildgrain (Wildgrain | Bread · Pasta · Pastry), based in Massachusetts, is a unique, bake-from-frozen delivery service for sourdough bread, artisan pastries, and fresh pasta. When we first heard about the brand we were intrigued. The mission of the brand is to support small bakers and pasta makers. That is the reason for the subscription status. The company needs to know how much they need to produce to fulfill monthly orders, but they are quite flexible. A customer is free to cancel monthly membership, reschedule, or skip an order at any time.

What does a monthly order look like? Our sample box contained:

Slow Fermented Olive Oil Ciabatta baked in 20 minutes and had a crunchy crust and soft interior. Our tasters loved it.

Sourdough Loaf baked in less that 24 minutes and makes an excellent sourdough bread.

Sourdough Harvest Loaf baked in less that 24 minutes. The loaf contains pecans, walnuts, cranberries, figs, apricots, and candied ginger

Sourdough Rolls come 8 to a package and bake in less than 15 minutes. We used them to accompany dinner and as breakfast rolls.

Croissants come 4 in a package and are sourdough based. They bake in less than 20 minutes growing into large flaky croissants – excellent.

Fresh Fettuccine comes in a 12-ounce package, makes 4 very generous servings, and cooks in 5 minutes. We found we needed to cook the pasta a few more minutes than that recommended on the package. Fettucine is made with only three ingredients: semolina flour, eggs and water. We served the fettuccine with a tomato sausage sauce and our tasters all enjoyed the pasta and had fun twirling the long strands.

Fresh Tonnarelli are birds nest pasta bundles that comes in a 12-ounce package, making 4 very generous servings, cooking in 5 minutes. Tonnarelli is made with only three ingredients: semolina flour, eggs, and water. Tonnarelli worked very well with a shrimp pesto sauce recipe.

Enjoying freshly baked bread in approximately 20 minutes was delicious. The only drawback is that the brand selects the variety of items you will receive monthly, but in some ways that can be part of the fun of your order.

All Wildgrain products are preservative free, vegetarian, and made with unbleached, non-GMO flour. Subscription members are able to send one-time gifts to others and non-members can opt for one-time gift boxes during the holiday season (November and December). This is a brand worth a try.
