New in the Market: Bowmar Butter High Protein Cashew Spread

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Bowmar Nutrition makes a variety of Bowmar Butters (Bowmar Nutrition | Protein Nut Spread (Butter)) based in almonds, cashews or peanuts. All are intended to be high protein nut spreads which can provide an interesting way to offer more protein to meals and snacks.

The brand suggests using the Bowmar Butter to spread in place of peanut butter or as a dip instead of hummus. Bowmar Butter is slightly thinner than peanut butter but if refrigerated it becomes the consistency of cookie dough. At room temperature it can added to hot cereal, shakes, smoothies or drizzled on yogurt.

We tasted High Protein Cashew Spread Sugar Cookie which has a slightly crunchy mouthfeel due to the tiny sugar crystals in the butter. A 2 tablespoon serving has 160 calories, 10 grams of fat, 10 grams of protein, 9 grams of carb (with no fiber, 2 grams of sugar and a trace of added sugar), 170 milligrams of potassium, and 20 milligrams of sodium. Some of the sweetness is provided by Xylitol and Stevia, both are no calorie sweeteners.
