Science Does Not Give Absolute Answers

Scientific research, like a pendulum, swings back and forth before settling on the best answer. But the findings from one study can only stand until they are challenged by newer research which will either support the earlier finding or disprove the earlier results.

Scientific research is a continuing dialogue and the information we learn comes as an evolution of knowledge not a revolutionary discovery.

The evening news may not always give you the best and most complete health information. Snippets of information are often reported and the complete story of a recent study may not unfold in a tweet or 30 second news report. For that reason, never make drastic changes in your life based on the results of one study or one news report.

You should also know that studies that have no effect or find no connection get very little news attention. No effect is actually good news. It would be nice to know that something doesn’t cause cancer or raise your risk for heart disease.
