What Does Paleo-friendly Labeling Mean?

Due to the popularity of the paleo diet, which is based on the concept of eating like our caveman ancestors, you are urged to eat more foods like those found during pre-agricultural days. Meats, eggs, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds are included and grains, legumes, dairy, sugar, salt and processed foods are excluded.

Because more and more people are attempting to eat a paleo diet, foods are being marketed as paleo-friendly. There is no standard for this labeling and even though privately run groups have begun to offer paleo food certification, there is no comprehensive criteria for this certification. Advocates of the paleo diet believe that it will help to keep you from gaining weight and lower the risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other serious health problems. Though this may be true, at this time there is insufficient evidence to support these claims.
