We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

The age-old myth that pickles and ice cream are craved by pregnant women is actually the basis for Preggo Pickle one of the brands from The Pickle Co. (Home – The Pickle Co). As the brand tells it, the wife of the founder was pregnant, experiencing morning sickness, and also craving pickles. And so, the Preggo Pickle line was founded.

Preggo Pickle comes in 3 varieties in 16-ounce jars. One ounce is considered a serving.

Garlic Dill Pregnancy Pickles have no calories in a serving, 75 milligrams of sodium, and 67 milligrams of potassium.

Gingerly Pregnancy Pickles have 15 calories in a serving, 40 milligrams of sodium, and 24 milligrams of potassium. The brand recommends this variety to help with nausea and morning sickness.

Lemon Drops Lactation Pickles have no calories in a serving, 40 milligrams of sodium, and 26 milligrams of potassium. The brand recommends this variety to aid with lactation. It includes plant-based galactagogues – lemon balm leaf, milk thistle and fenugreek. Galactagogues stimulate milk production. There are no clinical trials to support the effectiveness of these ingredients but they are not a harmful addition to the pickles.

Each variety was very good, had crunchy pieces, and the taste had the subtle flavor of the selection’s name. The pickles are kosher certified (OU). Whether Preggo Pickle is actually a panacea for some pregnancy ills is unsure but the pickles are good tasting. The idea is cute and unique and would provide a fun gift for a newly pregnant woman or at a baby shower or pregnancy reveal.
