We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Safe Harvest is a new line of soups packaged in glass jars. The soups are grain-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free with no added sugar. The brand takes a new approach to traditional soup classics by offering options for people with allergies, dietary restrictions or dietary preferences.

We tasted Chicken Oodle made with organic chicken, chicken bone broth, and hearts of palm noodles. Hearts of palm is a white vegetable harvested from palm trees. Safe Harvest uses the vegetable, cut into noodle shape, to substitute for traditional noodles that would not be grain or gluten-free. At first we were not sure what to expect from the hearts of palm noodles but were pleasantly surprised at their good texture and neutral flavor. They proved to be an excellent noodle substitute. The soup was flavorful and chicken was plentiful and tasty.

Chicken Oodle comes in a 13.2-ounce jar. One jar has 80 calories, 1 gram of fat, 11 grams of protein, 8 grams of carb (with no fiber or sugar), 310 milligrams of potassium and 910 milligrams of sodium.
