New in the Market: Safe Catch Wild Caught Seafood

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

We were introduced to Safe Catch Tuna in 2015. Since then Safe Catch Seafood has expanded its product line dramatically while keeping to its original mission of providing seafood with the lowest levels of mercury on the retail market. Safe Catch uses only those fish that are tested and pass strict mercury limits. In all cases the mercury limit allowed is well below standards for safety set by the FDA.

In addition to tuna, Safe Catch now offers salmon and sardine products. All Safe Catch tuna, salmon and sardines are wild caught, dolphin-safe and sustainably fished. Due to the potential for radiation exposure in wild seafood from the Fukushima disaster, Safe Catch tests for radiation and found neither the location being fished or the fish types they are sourcing have shown any health problems.

Safe Catch Wild Caught Tuna is available in 5-ounce cans or grab-and-go packs that are 2.6 or 3-ounces in size. Tuna is available as:

Elite Wild Tuna which has the lowest mercury levels of any tuna in the brand. It is recommended for kids and pregnant women and has been selected as the official tuna of the American Pregnancy Association.

Seasoned Elite Wild Tuna – We tried Garlic Herb, Chili Lime, Habanero Mint, Cajun, and Citrus Pepper. All were excellent.

            Ahi Wild Yellowfin Tuna

            Wild Albacore Tuna

Safe Catch Wild Caught Salmon is available in 5-ounce cans or grab-and-go packs that are 2.6 or 3-ounces in size. The salmon is skinless and boneless and available as:

            Wild Pink Salmon

Seasoned Wild Pink Salmon – We tried Citrus Dill and Italian Herb – very good.

            Wild Alaska Pink Salmon

Safe Catch Skinless & Boneless Sardines are available packed in water or olive oil in a 4.4-ounce tin.

Safe Catch recommends not draining the tuna or salmon before eating. The brand hand cuts and packs raw tuna steaks into the cans and slow cooks the seafood just once. Conventional tuna is twice cooked which causes a loss of natural oils and juices. The liquid in the Safe Catch packages is natural and if you break up the seafood with a fork it will be reabsorbed into the fish.

All Safe Catch Seafood products are NonGMO Project Verified, Ocean Wise Recommended, Whole 30 Approved, and kosher certified (OU).

If you have had concerns about the safety of canned seafood, Safe Catch is a brand worth trying.
