New in the Market: Oatsome Organic Oat Milk

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Oatsome Organic Oat Milk is another in a long line of alternative milk beverages coming to the market. We have tasted and been less than impressed by a number of these alternative milk brands but we were pleasantly surprised by Oatsome. It is very good with a slightly sweet taste even though it contains no added sugar.

Oatsome is made from organic oats, sunflower oil, sea salt and fortified with vitamins and minerals. One cup has 130 calories, 4 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, 21 grams of carb (no fiber and 13 grams of natural sugar), 60 milligrams of sodium, 104 milligrams of potassium, and 289 milligrams of calcium. The amount of calcium in Oatsome is close to that found in a cup of dairy milk, it is also fortified with vitamin D and vitamin B12, a nutrient in short supply for those relying on a plant-based diet. Oatsome is sourced from Italy and is certified USDA Organic, vegan, gluten-free and kosher (KF). It comes in a 1 liter (33.8-ounce) Tetra Pak which is shelf stable with an extended shelf life. Once opened Oatsome needs to be refrigerated and the brand recommends use within 10 days. It can be used in baking and matches the frothing abilities of milk for hot beverages.
