Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral found in the human body. Most is found in your bones with the rest in muscles, soft tissues or circulating in your blood. This mineral is important for many biochemical reactions that go on in your body. Though deficiencies are rare, chronic low levels of magnesium negatively affect how your body functions and may be associated with serious chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes.
Magnesium is found in many foods we eat and even water can provide some of this important mineral. Almonds and spinach are excellent sources. Peanuts, soy milk, whole wheat bread, avocado, brown rice, yogurt and fortified breakfast cereals are good sources.
