The Spanish call it a siesta. Winston Churchill, Thomas Edison, Bill Clinton, Yogi Berra and Margaret Thatcher were all faithful nappers who relied on this midday pause. A study reported at the European Society of Cardiology showed that midday naps lower blood pressure. The study participants, almost 400 adults with high blood pressure, who napped daily needed fewer prescription drugs to lower high blood pressure and showed less damage to their arteries and heart.
With today’s 9 to 5 workday and our overscheduled routines, few of us can enjoy the luxury of a midday snooze. Maybe we should nap more often.
