Most of us enjoy company. Those that live alone often eat alone and researchers have shown they may not eat as well as those who eat with company. Men fare worse than women. Those who live alone eat a more narrow selection of food, eating less fruits, vegetables and fish.
There are many reasons why eating alone is less healthy than eating with a roommate, family or spouse. A person may lack basic cooking skills. They may be unable to shop because of a disability or lack of transportation. Food may cost too much. And, it simply isn’t fun to prepare a meal for just one person. It may be difficult to pare down a recipe to one serving.
If you live alone, invite a friend for dinner. If you know someone who is alone invite them for a meal.
