The Foods You Choose Are Connected to Your Beliefs

Increasingly people are looking for foods that have a purpose, a planet-friendly back story, or that protects health. From climate change, to vegan meals to Black Lives Matter, there is a new generation of consumers who are making food decisions based on their passionately-held beliefs.

Climatarians, a new breed of eaters, are focused on climate-friendly foods that are related to solutions for climate change. Since a quarter of global carbon emissions are related to food production, climatarians want brands that demonstrate that they are lowering their carbon footprint and are using carbon labeling on their products. Both Chipotle and Panera chains (Chipotle Mexican Grill debuts sustainability tracker (nrn.com) are advertising their efforts at reducing the carbon footprint of the ingredients they use.
