After dealing with the pandemic for more than a year, grocery trends have emerged as new buying habits that may remain even when things return to normal. According to a survey by NCSolutions, which provides insights on buyer behavior, there has been a 14% increase in household grocery spending over the first year of the pandemic.

Over 40% of those surveyed say they are cleaning and disinfecting at home more as a way to prevent the spread of the virus. Home cooking is now a regular occurrence in most homes. Close to 50% of people say they cook more now than before the pandemic. Frozen foods, dry grains, beans, and baking ingredients are food categories with the highest growth.

Today, households that once kept few extra supplies and foods on hand, now note items they feel are essential to have as a ready supply – cleaning supplies, pain killers, thermometers, protein foods like chicken, fish and eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, snack foods, baking ingredients, and vitamin and mineral supplements.
