US consumers love strawberries, especially during the summer when they are in season. One cup of fresh strawberry halves has only 48 calories, more than your daily need for vitamin C, along with a number of other vitamins and minerals, fiber, and health-promoting anti-oxidants. In addition to being a healthy, sweet food, at the 2020 American Society for Nutrition annual conference a number of studies on strawberries were presented.
In a study from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago – eating strawberries every day can decrease neurofibrillary tangles, one of the characteristic hallmarks of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Research from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas – showed that strawberries can help to lower cholesterol in adults, even in those who are overweight.
Research from the Illinois Institute of Technology – suggests that strawberries can reduce inflammation of the colon and boost gut health.
A study from the University of California at Davis – suggested that people at risk for diabetes who ate strawberries had improved insulin function.
