We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.
BananaWave was introduced to the market in 2015 as an alternative to nut, soy and rice milk available on the nondairy milk shelf. BananaWave is based in pureed bananas and whole grain oats. It is shelf stable, so it is found on the grocery shelf and not in the dairy aisle. Originally available in 32-ounce tetra-paks, two flavors of BananaWave are now also available in an 8-ounce grab-and-go size.
BananaWave contains no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners, is kosher (OU) and Green Leaf NonGMO. Banana milk can be used as a beverage, as the base for a nondairy smoothie or as a milk substitute in baking.
BananaWave comes in three flavors – Original, Chocolate and Strawberry. We tasted Original and Chocolate. Both have a mildly sweet taste and a smooth slightly thick consistency, with a hint of banana aftertaste.
Original – an 8-ounce serving has 80 calories, no fat, 1 gram of protein, 19 grams of carbs (1 gram of fiber and 12 grams of sugar), 170 milligrams of potassium and 90 milligrams of sodium.
Chocolate and Strawberry – an 8-ounce serving of either flavor has 90 calories, no fat, 1 gram of protein, 22 grams of carbs (2 grams of fiber and 15 grams of sugar), 190 milligrams of potassium and 90 milligrams of sodium.
BananaWave is a nondairy milk alternative so it contains little or no calcium.
