We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.
Early in 2019, Tuscanini Foods introduced a lineup of gourmet Italian food products. All the products are sourced from Italy.
Italian Pastas– We tasted Conchiglie Tricolori (tricolor shells), Fusilli Tricolori (tricolor corkscrews) and Gigli (ruffle-edged cones) all of which come in 16-ounce bags. The pastas are made of 100% durum wheat semolina and are bronze cut. Today most pasta manufacturers push pasta dough through a teflon coated molder die to create a shape. Pasta made this way slides through easily and is smooth and shiny. Bronze cut pasta is passed through bronze dies which is a more traditional pasta process. Bronze cut pasta is a little coarser, more porous and slightly dull, providing a better surface for sauces to cling to. One serving, 2 ounces, cooked has 190 calories.
Tomato Sauce Premium Italian Passata– is simply sieved cooked tomatoes in a 17.6-ounce tetra pak. Tomatoes plus salt provides a perfect neutral palette for any recipes you wish. We used ours cooked with sausages and fresh vegetables served over Gigli. A quarter cup serving has 20 calories, 65 milligrams of sodium and 180 milligrams of potassium.
Tomato Paste – made from concentrated Tuscan tomatoes comes in a resealable 7.05 (200 gram) tube which is helpful when you need a burst of tomato flavor but not an entire can of tomato paste. Two tablespoons have 30 calories, 70 milligrams of sodium and 330 milligrams of potassium. Tomato Paste is NonGMO Project Verified.
Glaze with Balsamic Vinegar of Modena – adds grape musk and corn starch to traditional vinegar to produce a thicker, shinier, sweeter product. It can be used to decorate a plate or as a drizzle on salad, appetizers or even fruit. On tablespoon has 40 calories, no fat or protein, 8 grams of added sugar and 15 milligrams of sodium.
All of the Tuscanini products are kosher certified (OU and eu-k) and carry the Naturally Better With You In Mind seal.
