Restaurant chains, cities, states and even countries have decided to ban plastic drinking straws because of the damage they cause to landfills and marine life. Though many experts dispute the actual damage created by plastic drinking straws, using compostable disposables is gaining traction.
Repurpose manufacturer of sustainable tableware, introduced Compostable Straws in the summer of 2018. All Repurpose products are made from plant material – corn (maize), sugar cane and bamboo. The straws degrade in 90 to 180 days in industrial composters. They come 50 to a box (made of 85% recycled material) and are strong and flexible. We left a straw in liquid overnight and it maintained its integrity.
