We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Chutney is a condiment with South Asian roots that arrived in England and France sometime in the early 1600s. Chutneys are a savory side meant to balance a dish and can be either sweet and tart or spicy and hot. They provide a nice accompaniment to meats, fish, cheese and vegetables. Rebecca Williamson who founded Holmsted Fines based her recipes on English chutneys.

Holmsted Fines chutney is available in four varieties.

Apple Jalapeno – has 15 calories in two tablespoons and 40 milligrams of sodium. It has a sweet flavor with a mild kick that glows into a hearty afterbite. The apples and jalapenos are paired with apple cider vinegar, onions, sugar, ginger and cayenne pepper.

Balsamic Red Onion – has 35 calories in two tablespoons and 40 milligrams of sodium. It has a pleasant, light, oniony flavor. The red onions are paired with sweet onions, apples, raisins, oil, vinegar and spices.

Green Tomato – has 25 calories in two tablespoons and 70 milligrams of sodium. It provides a sweet/savory flavor as the tart tomatoes are paired with apples, sweet onions, raisins, vinegar, ginger and spices.

Peach – has 30 calories in two tablespoons and 40 milligrams of sodium. It is mildly sweet and was our favorite. The peaches are paired with apple cider vinegar, apples, raisins, sweet onions, ginger root and spices.

Holmsted Fines is committed to giving back. A percentage of every purchase is donated to help fight international human trafficking and ending childhood hunger in the US.
