New in the Market: Oui French Style Yogurt and Coconut Collaborative

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

With all the brands of yogurt currently on the market it is hard today for one brand to stand out, but Oui French Style by Yoplait in its glass jar is a standout. The only ingredients on the Plain variety are pasteurized grade A milk and yogurt cultures. The result is a very thick, creamy yogurt with a subtly sweet taste. The Oui Plain yogurt did not have the traditional tangy taste of other plain varieties. We tried it plain, with fresh fruit, with nuts and raisins, and with a dab of raspberry preserves. All our tasters, including some as young as 8, thought the plain yogurt was delicious.

One serving, one jar (5 ounces) has 130 calories, 8 grams of fat, 8 grams of carb (6 grams are natural sugar found in milk), 5 grams of protein, 150 milligrams of calcium, and 85 milligrams of sodium.

Oui is kosher certified (OK) and available in flavored varieties as well.

The Coconut Collaborative, the most popular coconut yogurt brand in Europe, introduced plant-based yogurts and desserts to the US in early 2018.

Single Serve Coconut Milk Yogurt comes in a 4.2-ounce container in 3 flavors.

Blueberry has 160 calories, 12 grams of fat, 1 gram of protein, 11 grams of carb (with 7 grams of sugar 5 of which are added), 20 milligrams of sodium and 210 milligrams of potassium.

Mango & Passion Fruit has 150 calories, 12 grams of fat, 1 gram of protein, 10 grams of carb (with 5 grams of sugar 3 of which are added), 30 milligrams of sodium and 210 milligrams of potassium.

Original has 150 calories, 12 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, 8 grams of carb (with 7 grams of natural sugar), 45 milligrams of sodium and 210 milligrams of potassium.

The texture and taste of all the yogurt varieties were similar to what you would expect from traditional milk-based yogurt. They contain live non-dairy cultures and are dairy free and vegan.

Paradise Pots are another product from The Coconut Collaborative. They are coconut cream-based desserts that come in 1.5-ounce containers, sold as a 4-pack. They are available in 2 flavors and are dairy free and vegan.

Chocolate Ganache has 100 calories, 6 grams of fat, no protein, 11 grams of carb (8 grams of sugar of which 6 grams are added sugar), 15 milligrams of sodium and 105 milligrams of potassium.

Lemon Ganache has 100 calories, 8 grams of fat, no protein, 8 grams of carb (5 grams of sugar of which 4 grams are added sugar), 8 milligrams of sodium and 35 milligrams of potassium.

Our tasters liked both ganache flavors as a sweet, small treat.

The Coconut Collaborative works with the Pur Project which works with companies to regenerate the ecosystems they depend on. To this effort they give thousands of coconut seedlings to farmers in Southeast Asia.
