According to an analysis presented at the American Heart Association’s 2017 Scientific Sessions, eating a diet lacking in healthy foods or high in unhealthy foods was linked to more than 400,000 deaths from heart disease in 2015. The authors of this analysis believe that half the heart disease deaths in the US could be prevented by eating better. They recommended eating more nuts, vegetables, whole grains and fruits and eating fewer foods with trans fat and salt.
Though the American Heart Association recommends limiting sugary drinks the authors of this study drew no conclusions between sugar consumption and the risk for heart disease.
