New in the Market: EatingWell Frozen Entrees

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

EatingWell frozen meals were conceived in connection with EatingWell magazine to offer single-serve frozen entrees. The brand has recently extended their line with 6 new meals. Each entree has no artificial colors or preservatives, provides 1 cup of vegetables, 13 or more grams of protein, whole grains, and meat and poultry sources raised without antibiotics.

EatingWell entrees must be heated in the microwave due to the brand specific fresh-seal packaging. We found this cooking method worked well. Also unique to the brand is the package with a window to see the actual frozen meal inside the box. The colors and ingredient variety that are visible makes the entrée appealing. Each entrée is 10 ounces.

Butter Chicken Masala is NSF Certified Gluten-Free. It has 370 calories, 15 grams of fat, 20 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber, and 660 milligrams of sodium. This entrée is an excellent source of vitamin A and a good source of vitamin C and iron.

LOVE your magazine. Regarding your frozen foods, why does everything have ccx to be so high In sodium? I’m on a VERY STRICT DIET, the sodium in foods (not just yours) are so high. I don’t understand.

Thanks for your time

I tried the chicken with wild rice, good but too much salt.

Love these meals, but like all other frozen meals, the sodium is too high! 🙁 So, unfortunately, I won’t be buying them because of that.

Not sure why everyone thinks these have too much sodium. In general, each meal has around 25% of the daily allowance of sodium. If you eat 3 meals a day, this is in line with what you should have, allowing for snacks. If you are on a low sodium diet, you will want to make up for it somewhere else in the day. A lot of frozen meals and processed food products have a ton more sodium than this.

I’m a heart/kidney patient and I was able to bring my kidneys back to normal but each meal only allots 300-350 mg. Once you get used to a healthy amount salt at your levels tastes terribly salty.

I’ve tried the chicken and fingerling potato entrée twice. I thought that maybe I got a bad batch the first time but had purchased two while trying to stock up for Covid supplies, so tried the second one. Same deal. Very bland potatoes, maybe one or two small pieces of chicken, and the asparagus consisted of two stringy thick stalks that are really not edible. I will never buy this product again and won’t try any other of the entrees. I do not recommend them.

These are among my favorite frozen entrees. I keep one or two in the freezer for when I have no time to cook.

I am very disappointed that my local grocery store (Kroger) has stopped selling the Eating Well meals. I absolutely loved those meals but I guess one person burying them each week isn’t enough to keep them from doing away with them.

I have eaten the chicken and fingerling potatoes dinner, and the asparagus was very soggy, and they could put in more chicken in the meal. The same with the french inspired chicken. Where’s the chicken! There was one bite of chicken in it! The flavor was good, but definitely needs more chicken!
