Who Is Generation Z?

Millennials get a lot of attention because they are so tech savvy and use this knowledge to decide what to eat and what to feed their families. But Generation Z, those born between 1996 and 2010 will become the grocery shoppers of the next 10 years. Children, tweens, and teenagers in Generation Z literally grew up on a smartphone, downloading apps, playing games and face-timing with friends. They use technology 24/7/365, are social, and have an attention span of about 8 seconds.

What does this all mean? To get them to become interested in healthy eating, exercise and good health, the message needs to hip, fast and relevant. Kids have always driven family food choices – what to buy and where to eat – but now parents need to appreciate that technology is driving many of their demands. Who is influencing your child? This is going to be an increasing challenge for families when they try to get their children to eat well.
