We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.
With all the milk substitutes on the market we were not sure what to expect from Banana Wave Bananamilk. We were pleasantly surprised at the mildly sweet taste, slightly thick smooth consistency, with a hint of banana aftertaste. Bananamilk can be kept unrefrigerated until opened and then it has a suggested self-life of 10 days. It is based on an African beverage made from bananas. Bananamilk is vegan, dairy, gluten and GMO free. Though Bananamilk notes oat flour as an ingredient, the brand assured us the oats are sourced gluten free. It is kosher certified (OU).
One serving, 8 ounces, has 150 calories, 5 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein, 330 milligrams of potassium, 125 milligrams of sodium, 300 milligrams of calcium (equal to a cup of milk), and it is a substantial source of vitamins D, C, E, B12 and riboflavin.
Bananamilk can be used as a beverage, as the base for a smoothie or as a milk substitute in baking.
