People who are significantly overweight often deal with sleep disturbances, most notably sleep apnea. Those who are chronically sleep deprived tend to gain weight more easily and have a tougher time getting the weight off.
A recent study found that overweight adults who ate more protein while dieting had improved sleep quality. This was the first study to explore how diet can influence sleep. A limitation to the findings of the research is that there were only 14 subjects in their 50s. Though the results are intriguing more evidence is needed to confirm the positive results.
In the meantime, if you are trying to lose weight, designing a diet with additional protein is not harmful and may not only help you lose weight but you might sleep better.
