We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.
Halo Top Ice Cream 300We first tried Halo Top Creamery ice cream in 2013. This light ice cream brand has added three new flavors which continue the company’s focus on lower calories and sugar and more protein and fiber than traditional ice cream. The flavors are sweetened with a combination of organic cane sugar plus erythritol (a low calorie sugar substitute) and stevia (a plant-based no calorie sweetener). They are certified gluten-free and kosher (KOF-K).
The new flavors are:
Birthday Cake – with rainbow-colored sprinkles has 70 calories in a ½ cup serving with 2 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein, 5 grams of sugar, 5 grams of sugar alcohol (erythritol), and 5 grams of fiber.
Mint Chip – with chocolate chips has 60 calories in a ½ cup serving with 2 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of sugar, 5 grams of sugar alcohol (erythritol), and 5 grams of fiber.
Chocolate Mocha Chip – with white chocolate chips has 70 calories in a ½ cup serving with 2.5 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of sugar, 5 grams of sugar alcohol (erythritol), and 5 grams of fiber. This rich chocolate ice cream was our favorite.
The company suggests giving Halo Top flavors some time to temper (thaw slightly) before eating because the brand freezers a little harder than ice cream with a higher fat content. Going this extra step did give the flavors a better mouthfeel and a more distinct flavor. We’d recommend taking the extra time.
