We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.
In 2015, Amira Nature Foods celebrates its 100th anniversary. A global company producing Indian specialty rice and other products, it is best known for its long-grain, Indian grown, Basmati rice. We had the opportunity to try three Amira rice varieties.

Smoked Basmati Rice has a light smoky fragrance and taste. Its cooking directions are the same as Natural Basmati Rice. A one-cup cooked serving has 160 calories and 1 gram of fiber. It is GMO-free and kosher certified (Heart K).
Organic Sona Masoori Rice is a medium grain, fatter kernel rice. It is a bit starchier than basmati rice, but still a flavorful fluffy choice. A one-cup cooked serving has 160 calories and no fiber. Soaking is also recommended for Sona Masoori Rice after which it cooks in 10 minutes. It is Non-GMO Project Verified, USDA Organic, and kosher certified (KLBD).
