We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

SustainableSeas is the value-priced tuna brand from Wild Planet Foods. The tuna are caught one fish at a time by fisheries around the world that use pole and troll fishing methods. This eliminates bycatch of other marine species and helps to preserve the marine environment. SustainableSeas tuna is listed as Best Choice by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch and the Blue Ocean Institute Safina Center.

SustainableSeas offers 3 varieties of tuna, sold in 4.1-ounce cans, packed in water, with or without added salt. A 2-ounce serving has 60 calories.

Solid Light Tuna is skipjack tuna with 130 milligrams of sodium per serving; 25 milligrams sodium in the No Salt Added variety.

Solid Albacore Tuna has 130 milligrams of sodium per serving; 60 milligrams sodium in the No Salt Added variety.

Yellowfin Tuna has 360 milligrams of sodium per serving; 170 milligrams sodium in the No Salt Added variety.

All varieties are kosher certified (OU).

SustainableSeas tuna is good source of omega-3, heart healthy fats and is low in mercury because they catch smaller (9 to 25 pound), younger (3 to 5 years old) tuna that are lower on the food chain than larger older tuna. This brand is worth a try.
