We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Nielsen-Massey has a reputation for producing quality, rich-tasting, pure vanilla extracts. Founded in 1907, the company is still directed by three members of the Nielsen family. In 2009, The Nielsen-Massey Foundation was founded with a mission to assist disadvantaged children and adults with education and leadership development, especially in the field of culinary arts. The company donates 10% of their profits to the foundation.

We were first introduced to Nielsen-Massey Vanilla a number of years ago and learned how a quality vanilla can truly enhance a recipe. It not only adds flavor but vanilla enhances the flavor of other ingredients and can mask an acidic bite.

Nielsen-Massey used the 2019 New York City Fancy Food Show to showcase its two newest single-origin pure vanilla extracts.

Ugandan Pure Vanilla Extract has a creamy-sweet flavor with hints of chocolate. It can be used in any type of baking but pairs especially well with chocolate, caramel and citrus dishes. As a founding member of the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative, Nielsen-Massey is working with Uganda to promote a strong vanilla-growing sector in the country.

Indonesian Pure Vanilla Extract has a stronger flavor profile with woody and smoky undertones. It holds up well during high heat or slow cooked recipes. To support the brand’s mission of sustainability, Nielsen-Massey is working to help promote a Food Forest Garden initiative with the government of Indonesia.

Both new vanilla products are NonGMO Project Verified, Certified Gluten Free and kosher certified (cRc).

Vanilla products do not need to provide a nutrition label because they provide little or no calories and offer only trace amounts of any nutrients. The main purpose of vanilla is to add flavor to a food.

Nielsen-Massey is a brand worth trying.
