Grinder, Hoagie, Sub or Hero?

Depending on where you grew up in the northeastern part of the US, you may call the classic submarine-shaped, long, filling sandwich by a different name. It is believed the sub originated in Connecticut by a restaurant owner who delivered submarine shaped sandwiches to a local naval base during World War II.

Today, thanks to national and global sandwich chains – Subway, Jersey Mike’s, Firehouse Subs – the classic submarine sandwich is now a convenient, hand-held meal that people enjoy throughout the world from Connecticut to Europe, Australia, Singapore, Brazil, and India.
