New in the Market: Wunder Quark

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

You are thinking that picture looks like yogurt containers, so what is quark? Quark is a cultured dairy food used throughout Europe and central Asia with a non-tart taste, thick texture and high protein content. Quark is a different version of traditional, cultured, thick yogurt.

Wunder Creamery Grass Fed Quark is made in upstate New York from whole milk sourced from family farms that pasture graze their cows. Wunder has more protein, less sugar and the taste is less acidic (with a more neutral pH) than traditional yogurts. Close to 95% of the lactose has been strained out of Wunder when the whey is removed in the culturing process making it acceptable for most people with lactose intolerance. Wunder is Certified Gluten-Free and certified kosher (OU).

Wunder is available in 6 flavors in 5.3-ounce containers.

Blueberry, Raspberry, Coffee, and Matcha all have 160 calories. The Coffee and Matcha flavors are both mild tasting, pleasant, and different.

Vanilla Bean Coconut has 170 calories.

All flavors have 15 grams of protein and 140 milligrams of calcium.

Plain has 140 calories, 16 grams of protein, 4 grams of carb, 150 milligrams of calcium, 50 milligrams of sodium and 200 milligrams of potassium. It was our favorite because of its neutral, non-tangy flavor. Plain is also available in a 24-ounce size. Wunder is an innovative new addition to the yogurt category and worth a try.
