We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Today families are busy and many do not stock a pantry full of diverse herbs and spices. Two moms who founded The Zen of Slow Cooking hope to help families solve both issues with Slow Cooker Spice Blends that help transform easy to prepare recipes into healthy meals for families.

There are 8 Slow Cooker Spice Blends. Each package contains two spice packets to prepare two dinners and offers two recipes for the slow cooker. Instant Pot instructions and additional recipes can be found on the brand website. The spices used in each blend are non-irradiated and NonGMO Certified.

We tried three spice blends.

Mediterranean produced a sausage, pepper and onion dish in a robust tomato sauce which we served over pasta. Our tasters voted this a hit.

Sichuan made a main dish Chinese, chicken, rice noodle soup that was hearty and nuanced in flavor.

Southwest Fiesta made spicy beef tacos. Though the recipes recommended shredding the brisket into the sauce, some of our tasters found the sauce a little too fiery for their taste, so we sliced the meat, which was soft, delicious and well flavored, and let our tasters used the sauce at their discretion.

All the recommended recipes took 20 minutes or less to prepare and were easy to follow. The spice blend chosen would depend on personal taste but all produced an excellent product.

The Zen of Slow Cooking is a socially conscious company. They are a Certified B Corporation, a for-profit company that meets rigorous standards for social and environmental policies and transparency. They have partnered with Planet Access Company to employ adults with developmental disabilities and they distribute slow cookers and spice blends to underserved communities.
