New in the Market: Realgood Foods

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Realgood Foods is a 2-year old company that is producing some innovative products. They make low-carb, gluten-free pizzas and enchiladas by using a combination of white meat chicken and cheese to form the pizza crust or the tortilla wrap. The idea is clever and the product works.

We tasted 3 products.

Realgood Enchiladas Beef In Red Sauce come two to a package (4.6 ounces) with 190 calories, 20 grams of protein, 10 grams of fat, 4 grams of carb (2 grams of sugar and 2 grams of fiber), and 770 milligrams of sodium.

Realgood Three Cheese Pizza is a single serve pie (4.4 ounces) with 240 calories, 25 grams of protein, 14 grams of fat, 4 grams of carb (2 grams of sugar and no fiber), and 730 milligrams of sodium.

Realgood Snack Size Pizzas Uncured Pepperoni come eight to a package. Four mini pizzas (4.2 ounces) are a serving with 250 calories, 20 grams of protein, 15 grams of fat, 4 grams of carb (2 grams of sugar and 1 gram of fiber), and 750 milligrams of sodium.

Realgood Foods can be heated in the microwave or in the oven. For pizza, the company suggests a 2 to 3 minute browning in a frying pan after heating for a crisper crust. Pizzas can also be cooked directly on the grill from the frozen state. Real Good Enchiladas and Pizzas can be found in the frozen food aisle of the supermarket.

Why is the sodium content so high?

Unfortunately sodium content is often the downside of processed food. Most experts recommend 600 milligrams or less for a main dish portion. I’d suggest that you click on the link for the brand in the feature above. As the feature is a couple of years old you may be able to explore options within the brand that are lower in sodium. Hope that helps.
