New in the Market: Moon Cheese

by Jo-Ann Heslin, MA, RD, CDN on September 4, 2018 · 0 comments

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Moon Cheese is a crunchy cheese snack that does not need refrigeration. Moisture is removed, leaving bite-sized nuggets of 100% cheese that are gluten free and vegetarian because the cheese is made with a bacterial starter.

Moon Cheese is packaged in a 2-ounce, reclosable package in three flavors.

One serving is 6 to 7 pieces (we found this a bit small) with 70 calories.

Cheddar has 5 grams of fat, 5 grams of protein, 1 gram of carb, 140 milligrams of sodium, 117 milligrams of calcium, and 11 milligrams of potassium.

Gouda (our favorite) has 5 grams of fat, 5 grams of protein, no carb, 190 milligrams of sodium and 150 milligrams of calcium.

Pepper Jack has 5 grams of fat, 4 grams of protein, no carb, 150 milligrams of sodium and 150 milligrams of calcium.

Moon Cheese is a handy snack or a nice swap for croutons on a salad.
