We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Hain Celestial’s mission is to provide food that promotes a healthier way of life. Three of the Hain brands have enlarged their snack options.

We sampled 3 varieties of their Sensible Portions Garden Veggie Straws. They are a crunchy snack with less fat than traditional potato chips, containing no artificial flavors or preservatives, and are kosher certified (OU). All varieties have a similar nutrition profile, except for sodium, with 130 calories in a 1-ounce bag: Cheddar Cheese 300 milligrams of sodium; Sea Salt (our favorite) 210 milligrams of sodium; and Zesty Ranch 280 milligrams of sodium

Terra maker of vegetable chips for over 20 years has added plantain chips to their lineup. Available as Plantains Sea Salt and Sweet Plantains each flavor is made with simple ingredients and kosher certified (KOF-K). Both flavors have 140 calories in a 1-ounce serving (one-fifth of the package). Plantains Sea Salt has 80 milligrams of sodium and Sweet Plantains has 5 milligrams of sodium.

Terra supports the Seed Saver Exchange which helps to preserve heirloom fruit and vegetable varieties.

Garden of Eatin’ has expanded its corn tortilla chip line to include Organic Ranch and Organic Nacho. Both flavors have 130 calories in a 1-ounce serving (about 12 chips) and are kosher certified (KOF-K).
