New in the Market: PRE Ground Beef

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

The company, Pre Brands offers a lineup of 100% grass-fed, hand trimmed steaks and ground beef sourced from New Zealand and Australia. The cuts are individually portioned as 5, 8 and 10-ounce steaks, 1.5-pound chuck roast, two 1/3-pound burgers, or 1 pound of ground beef (available 85%, 92% or 95% lean). Though PRE cuts are sold fresh, they can be safely frozen in their packaging.

We sampled 92% lean, 8% fat Ground Beef. We made a traditional meatball recipe and the result was excellent. 100% grass fed beef typically has a more nuanced beef flavor because the cattle are never fed grain, corn or silage. The PRE ground beef definitely had a superior, mild beef taste.

Retail availability is expanding nationwide and the website can point you toward an outlet in your area. This is a brand worth a try.
