We enjoy trying new kitchen gadgets. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

front_Opus-300We reviewed the iCoffee Steam Brew and thought the coffee maker was excellent.

The company has recently released the iCoffee Opus single serve brewer. This single serve coffeemaker can use any K-cup pod on the market or you can grind your own favorite coffee and use the reusable iCup pod that comes with the machine. Opus uses the same spin-steam-brew feature of the larger iCoffee Steam Brew. It simply makes one cup at a time.

Opus comes with a water reservoir that provides a hot water holding tank, allowing you to make cup after cup quickly. If the brewer is dormant after two hours, it shifts automatically to an energy saving mode which turns off completely in 26 hours.

Or you can set the brewer to turn off after two hours. Opus Dial-a-Brew allows you to brew a cup any size from 4 to 12 ounces. We liked this feature because you can adjust the amount of coffee to fit the cup or togo containers you are using. The drip tray under the cup is held to the brewer by a magnet which makes it easy to remove to accommodate a tall container or to clean.

If are you shopping for a 1-cup brewer, the Opus is an excellent choice. If you’ve never owned a 1-cup brewer, this brand is a great place to start.
