We enjoy trying new kitchen gadgets. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Livliga is a line of dinnerware and glassware that helps direct the eater to select not only the correct portion size but the proportion of foods that make up a healthy meal. The dinnerware comes in two patterns, Halsa and Vivente, each of which contains VisualQs in the dish design that reminds the eater about the amount and type of food they should have at one time.

Many will find the porcelain dishes, which are microwave and dishwasher safe, smaller than most average dinnerware sold today. The company calls their dinnerware right-sized. The visuals in the dish design are intended to provide positive triggers to support right-sized eating.

Livliga_Halsa-300The dinner plate with stylistic circular designs directs the eater to choose ½ to ¾ cup of grains, 1 cup of fruits and vegetables, 2 to 6 ounces of protein, and no more than 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) of sauce, gravy, condiment, salad dressing, dip or jam.

The salad plate is smaller and can be used for salad, dessert, sides or snacks. Its design represents ½ to ¾ cup measures with a smaller circle guiding the user into a 2 tablespoon serving for dip or dressing.

The bowl prompts servings of 1 cup (8-ounces) for cereal or a snack of raw fruits or veggies or 12 ounces for soups, stews or salad.

The mug provides an inside fill line for an 8-ounce serving of coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

As an additional teaching tool, portion size suggestions are noted on the bottom of the dinner plate for all four dishes in the place setting.

GlassZulily-2-28-14The Livliga Aveq Wine Glass takes the guesswork out of exactly how much is in an average glass of wine. The glasses are dishwasher safe and the designs are etched so they will not rub off or fade with use. The top line measures 6 ounces of wine, the bulls eye 5 ounces and the bottom line 4 ounces.

Livliga tableware is not inexpensive. A single place setting is $49.95 and service for 4 is $198.95. Each place setting comes with a dinner plate, salad plate, bowl and mug. The Aveq wine glasses are $49.95 for a set of four. For those trying to lose weight, maintain their weight loss, or for those coping with a serious health condition, such as diabetes or anorexia, Livliga could be a good investment to help them attain their goals.
