  • Eat a moderate amount of fat, divided between foods with saturated, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats.
  • Avoid foods with trans fats.
  • Eating 200 to 400 milligrams of cholesterol a day is a safe range, depending on your individual risks.
  • Eat more whole grains and fiber-rich foods.
  • Eat less food with added sugar.
