New in the Market: Stonyfield 0% Fat Organic Yogurt

We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Stonyfield Farms has been producing organic yogurt for 28 years. They recently introduced 0% Fat Organic Yogurt. The plain variety has 80 calories in a 6-ounce serving. The flavored varieties – Black Cherry, French Vanilla, Key Lime, Lemon, Peach, Pomegranate Berry, and Strawberry – have 100 calories in a 6-ounce serving.

The new varieties have 30% less sugar than the original yogurt flavors because they are sweetened with stevia, a zero-calorie sweetener and a small amount of organic cane sugar to create the right amount of sweetness. Stevia comes from a plant native to South America and is considered safe for use in foods and beverages.

The 100-Calorie 0% Fat Organic Yogurts are a rich source of probiotics, friendly bacteria that enhance the function of your immune system and help fight infection. Although there is no recommended dietary allowance for probiotics, most experts recommend an amount shown to be effective in clinical studies. One container of Stonyfield yogurt contains at least 1 billion CFUs (colony forming units, a measure of live bacteria activity) of Lactobacillus rhamnosus. This amount is comparable to that recommended in numerous research studies as an effective daily dose.

All the yogurt flavors are gluten free and certified kosher (OU).
