New in the Market: Volcano Lemon and Lime Burst

We love to try new foods. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

We prefer to use fresh lemons and limes whenever possible but sometimes find we need a dash of lemon to add to a recipe with no fresh lemons in the kitchen. We’ve never been crazy about bottled lemon or lime juice. So we were pleasantly surprised to try Volcano Lemon Burst. Made by Dream Foods, both the Volcano Lemon Burst and the Volcano Lime Burst come in 6.7 oz fruit-shaped, plastic squeeze bottles.

The company proudly notes the source of both products. The Lemon Burst is made from organic lemons grown in Sicily. The Lime Burst is made from organic limes grown in Mexico. Each is fitted with a patented cap that releases essential lime or lemon oil when the juice container is squeezed. This allows for the bouquet expected when fresh lemons or limes are cut.

Both Lemon Burst and Lime Burst contain no calories, fat, sodium or protein. A 1-ounce (2 tablespoons) serving has 1 gram of carb and a small amount of vitamin C.

The Bursts are preservative free, with a use-by date on the container. They can be stored in the kitchen cabinet until opened and then refrigerated. Both are kosher (OU) certified. This is a handy, quality product that can be used for a squeeze of lemon or lime on fish, over a salad or to add to a recipe

Have a problem with the packaging. To open, you break a small piece of plastic around the top of the cap but sharp plastic points remain on the cap so every time you open the cap, the sharp points poke your fingers.
