The next time you get on the treadmill, walk hands-free. Walking on a treadmill without holding on can burn 20% more calories, even if you walk at a slower pace. Hands-free walking makes balance part of the exercise. Holding tightly, especially at a fast pace (3.5 miles/hour or more), can also raise your blood pressure.
